In my bedroom

In my bedroom was a site-specific work installed in the artist’s bedroom while living at Monstrosity Gallery in Sydney. The entire room and most of its original contents were covered in cardboard and paper, and visitors to the installation were invited to enter the room and explore it. The work recalls cubby houses and forts of our childhood, where we would retreat to when the world disappointed, confused or threatened us. As an adult interpretation of this kind of space, In my bedroom feels initially comforting, but on further inspection is revealed to be a flimsy, provisional construction, a poor defence against the increasingly hostile and complex modern world on the brink of catastrophe.
